The latest NFL rumors state that Robert Griffin could land with the San Francisco 49ers in 2016 free agency after being waived by the Washington Redskins earlier in the offseason.

According to Charles Robinson of Yahoo Sports, Griffin, or popularly known as “RG3”, is a target by the 49ers, who currently has Chip Kelly as head coach.

“None of this is to say that circumstances can’t change with these teams. But the road that’s currently illuminated for Griffin is going in one direction and that path leads to the 49ers and Chip Kelly,” Robinson wrote about the Griffin NFL rumors linking him to San Francisco.

“Make no mistake, Kelly is a huge factor in where the pursuit goes. The reality is that Griffin suits Kelly’s offensive scheme better than any quarterback he has had in the NFL. And that alone makes Griffin a viable and attractive option.”

However, the San Francisco team still has to let go of previous starting quarterback Colin Kaepernick and trade him in a separate deal. The Denver Broncos are reportedly interested in Kaepernick after losing both Peyton Manning and Brock Osweiler earlier in offseason.

Griffin is one of the top free agent quarterbacks this offseason with other QBs like Osweiler already finding a new team in the Houston Texans and others like Kaepernick and Griffin involved in other NFL rumors.

After a great rookie and sophomore years in Washington, Griffin lost his starting QB job with the Redskins to Kirk Cousins. RG3 had 1,694 passing yards on 147 of 214 completions with 4 touchdowns and 6 interceptions in the 2015 season playing in just nine games in the regular season.

Griffin is also reportedly looking at signing with the New York Jets in one of the NFL rumors this offseason.
