The Cleveland Browns are already looking to prepare for a future without quarterback Robert Griffin III, according to latest NFL rumors. The Browns will still give “RG3” a chance to prove himself when he returns from a shoulder injury but Cleveland management will also plan
Adam Schefter and Chris Mortensen of ESPN stated in a recent report that Griffin’s injury could be a blessing in disguise for the Browns as they will already think of their future at the quarterback position.
“Yet there are those in the Browns’ building who think Griffin’s injury could turn out to be a good thing for the franchise because coach Hue Jackson was so focused on fighting Griffin. The team now can move on and do what it needs,” the article stated.
This could mean two things for the Browns. Cleveland can trade him if there is an interested NFL team or they cut him and save some money. Griffin signed a two-year deal worth $15 million with the Browns in the 2016 offseason but only about $6.5 million is guaranteed.
Griffin had 190 passing yards on 12 of 26 completions in the Browns’ 29-10 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 1. There are NFL rumors that recovery time on his shoulder injury could take 3 to 4 weeks and that after being re-evaluated he can even miss the season.
With Griffin out, Josh McCown and Cody Kessler will take over the quarterback spot in Cleveland.
