Several NFL players are expected to be traded few weeks before the 2017 NFL draft. According to the latest NFL trade rumors, New England Patriots cornerback Malcolm Butler and Washington Redskins quarterback Kirk Cousins will be moved before the draft takes place.
More than two weeks before the draft, NFL teams are currently making their own strategies to address the areas needed to improve on their roster. Teams who are planning to undergo a full-scale rebuild are expected to deal their veteran players for young assets and draft picks. Meanwhile, teams who dream of becoming a Super Bowl contender are considering to add experienced players.
NFL trade rumors will continue to surface in the league. Cameron DaSilva of Fox Sports recently posted a list some players who could be traded before the end of the NFL draft. These include Malcolm Butler of the New England Patriots and Kirk Cousins of the Washington Redskins.
NFL Trade Rumors: Malcolm Butler to New Orleans Saints
Patriots CB Malcolm Butler continues to be part of various NFL trade rumors in the past months. However, only the New Orleans Saints emerged as the realistic suitor for the veteran cornerback. The Saints are in dire need of a defensive boost as they rank 31st in defense against the pass last season.
MMQB’s Albert Breer believes the Patriots will trade Butler in the right situation. Breer thinks Butler will be heading to New Orleans before the 2017 NFL draft.
“I still think there’s a good chance he goes to New Orleans,” Breer told CSNNE Sunday. “And I think it would be in that one-week window where he comes off the market. Obviously still, he’s on the [restricted free agent] market. Once we get a week before the draft [on April 21], he can’t even talk to other teams anymore. By then, he knows what’s out there. He feels comfortable. He signs the offer sheet. And then the Patriots can start talking to teams in the week leading up to the draft. By that point, I think the Saints put something in front of New England, and see if they can consummate a deal.”
NFL Trade Rumors: Kirk Cousins to San Francisco 49ers
The Kirk Cousins trade to the San Francisco 49ers became the center of discussion in the past months. Cousins’ future in Washington remains uncertain as the Redskins revealed they’re not confident that the QB will sign a long-term deal. Despite the rumors, Cousins isn’t expecting to be dealt before the draft.
“I’m not expecting anything to happen,” Cousins said Tuesday on ESPN’s NFL Live.
