Raymond “Red” Reddington, played by James Spader, may have committed the biggest mistake in his entire life. “The Blacklist” Season 4 see Red making a new enemy for not making sure Mr. Kaplan (Susan Blommaert) is dead.
The show’s executive producer Jon Bokenkamp told Entertainment Weekly that Red has all the reasons to shoot Mr. Kaplan. Bokenkamp explained that Mr. Kaplan knows too much about Red and she betrayed him the impossible way. Kaplan helped in faking the death of Liz (Megan Boone) which made her a dead man walking even before the season started.
“Red values loyalty above all else, and Mr. Kaplan betrayed him in an impossible way. Remember, Reddington killed Newton Phillips in season 1 by suffocating him with a plastic bag from a funeral urn. He shot an old woman (Diane Fowler) after she betrayed him. Hell, he shot Pee Wee Herman! The man is ruthless. In Red’s mind, Mr. Kaplan had to go,” Bokenkamp said.
In the Season’s episode 2 Red shoots Mr. Kaplan in the forest for her betrayal but the show gave the scene a twist. Red forgot to make sure she is dead and that will surely come back to haunt him. In episode 3, Kaplan gains consciousness but struggles to get up and find help, Bokenkamp added that the season will also how Red, Liz and Alexander Kirk (Ulrich Thomsen) lives will intertwine.

NBC has teased that Kaplan still has some “unfinished business” and that might keep her throughout the season. There is also a chance that Kaplan will become a force Red will reckon with as his recent actions will backfire big time.
