Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard has some advice for Manchester United target Antoine Griezmann. The 36-year-old has asked the Frenchman to steer clear of Old Trafford in the upcoming summer transfer window.

“Get him as far away from Manchester! I think he’s one of the best at finding space, gaps and hurting teams. Where should his agent take him? As far away from Manchester United as you can find!” Gerrard said when asked about Griezmann on punditry duty for BT Sport on Wednesday.

The France international has starred for Atletico Madrid since moving from Real Sociedad in the summer of 2014. He became their all-time leading scorer in the Champions League back in February.

Atletico Madrid helpless in Griezmann transfer

Griezmann also played his part for Diego Simeone’s men as they edged past Leicester to secure a place in the semi-final of the Champions League for the third successive campaign on Wednesday. The forward has amassed 19 goals for the Spaniards this season, as reported by Liverpool Echo.

The Frenchman has been linked with a big-money switch to Old Trafford this summer. During the broadcast, ex-Red Devils defender Rio Ferdinand declared Gerrard would be devastated if [Griezmann] signs for United.

Despite Atletico Madrid’s impressive performance in the Champions League for the last few seasons, Griezmann’s future at the club remains under a cloud. The Red Devils are reportedly keen to pay a world-record transfer fee for the player.

While the striker has stated on several occasions that he is no rush to leave his current club, United continue to be linked with a big-money move to sign the 26-year-old this summer. Griezmann has a €100 million ($107m) release clause in his contract. If the Red Devils pay the amount, then Atletico will be powerless to stop his transfer to Old Trafford.
