La Liga giant Real Madrid’s interest in Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea is not new. With the summer transfer window fast approaching, the Los Blancos will reignite their pursuit of the No. 1 shot-stopper at Old Trafford.

Latest reports in Spain suggest that Real Madrid will offer two of their first-team superstars plus £20 million ($25m) cash to sign the highly rated Spanish goalkeeper. Zinedine Zidane, Madrid manager, wishes to part with both James Rodriguez and Raphael Varane to sign United’s shot-stopper, according to Don Balon.

Zidane and Perez want De Gea to replace Navas

The former Atletico Madrid goalkeeper has long been linked with a move to the Santiago Bernabeu. Zidane and Florentino Perez will go all out to sign the player this summer. The duo is aware that Keylor Navas’ time at the Santiago Bernabeu is coming to an end. Signing De Gea would provide a huge boost to the squad in the upcoming season.

The 26-year-old De Gea is considered one of the best goalkeepers in the world. Since Sir Alex Ferguson’s retirement, the Spaniard has easily been the best player for United. With the Red Devils not a Champions League favorite anymore; it is natural for the keeper to attract interest from other top clubs in world football.

James Rodriguez is nearing an end to his stay in Madrid. The Colombia international has failed to nail a first-team place under Zidane. The 25-year-old will be on his way out when the summer transfer window opens.

However, the inclusion of Varane in the deal to acquire De Gea is surprising. The Frenchman is considered as one of the best young center-backs in world football at the moment. But, regular injuries have halted his progress. The 23-year-old has also been inconsistent this season which has led Zidane losing faith in the youngster.

Varane and James to improve Man Utd

Real Madrid is one of the few teams in world football with incredible squad depth. The Los Blancos has a tremendous midfield and it is not surprising that they are ready to include James in a deal to acquire De Gea. However, with Pepe nearing the end of his career and Varane being included in the reported deal, Zidane has to look forward to signing a couple of fresh center-backs for next season.

Although James and Varane have struggled for Real Madrid this season, it cannot be denied that they are players of immense talent. Their inclusion would bolster any team in world football. Hence, the prospect of losing De Gea in return for both player plus cash deal will definitely interest Manchester United and Jose Mourinho.
