The news of Manchester United goalkeeper David De Gea demanding a move to Real Madrid is the talk of the town. However, there are contrasting reports suggesting the claim.

Carlos Carpo of Marca has claimed that Real Madrid are determined to recruit De Gea in the summer. They want to ensure the deal is completed in good time, they have set to work well in advance.

The goalkeeper came close to joining Real in the summer of 2015 only for the deal to fall through at the last minute, and shortly after, the 26-year-old signed a new deal at the club to extend his stay until 2019.

Speculation linking De Gea with Madrid has increased of late. This is particularly after the Spaniard was left out of United’s Premier League trip to Sunderland on April 9.

According to reports, Los Blancos will have to shell out a world-record €75 million ($82m) for the Spaniard’s services. This will see him eclipse Gianluigi Buffon as the most expensive goalkeeper in the world. Buffon had moved from Parma to Juventus for a deal in the region of €53m ($58m).

Real Madrid desperate to find Iker Casillas successor

Real Madrid’s current number 1, Keylor Navas, has endured a shaky season in between the sticks of the Santiago Bernabeu outfit. He has not managed a single clean sheet in his last 10 La Liga games. This has forced the Santiago Bernabeu outfit to step up the chase of their #1 target.

Reports are also suggesting that one of Alvaro Morata or James Rodriguez might also be making the switch from Madrid to Manchester as part of a deal. However, the Spanish giants prefer the two deals being separate, rather than using a player plus cash to bring De Gea to the club.

De Gea has established himself as not only one of the best players in the Premier League but also among the best in his position in world football. He showed his shot-stopping against Manchester City on Thursday to keep out Sergio Aguero.

Guillem Balague hints hidden agenda behind De Gea transfer rumors

However, Guillem Balague of Sky Sports has claimed that there is more to the potential transfer than meets the eye. He has questioned David de Gea’s desire to join Real Madrid.

“Do Real Madrid want De Gea? You bet they do. What surprises me, however, is why a club like Manchester United – that have no need to sell him – would be prepared to let him leave. I’m sensing a hidden agenda,” Balague said.

“There are plenty of rumors that David de Gea is Real Madrid-bound, but I am not convinced that this is the wish of the current United goalkeeper. Just why would he want to leave a club that is one of the world’s biggest, a club on the up, and where he is unquestionably the number one to move to Madrid where he will be on less money and the pressure will be higher?”

Jose Mourinho, Manchester United manager has insisted that De Gea is not fazed by talks of a potential move to Madrid. The Portuguese gaffer has stressed on the Spaniard’s recent form to strengthen his claim.
