Filming is about to start for Marvel’s The Defenders on Netflix as the last member Iron Fist is slated for a March 2017 release date.

Marvel and Netflix dropped a major bombshell of information during the Iron Fist’s panel at New York Comic-Con this past weekend when they announced that Sigourney Weaver will join the series.

Weaver is best known for her iconic role in the Alien franchise and her addition in The Defenders series as the main villain has fans of the Marvel shows excited.

Netflix executive Cindy Holland said, per TV Line, “She’s a formidable actress and we are thrilled to have her join our remarkable cast alongside Charlie, Krysten, Mike and Finn.”

According to IGN, Weaver could play any of these villains: the villainous Viper, the mastermind Silvermane, mafia leader Ma Gnucci, the former kingpin Alexander Bont, evil corporation leader Dario Agger or the immortal Beast of the Hand.

Details of her role have not been announced yet but speculations are swirling that it is someone capable enough of taking on the combined might of Iron Fist, Luke Cage, Jessica Jones and Daredevil.

Meanwhile, speculations are rife that The Punisher/Frank Castle (Jon Berthal) will also make an appearance in The Defenders after the successful introduction of the character in Daredevil season 2. This could mean that a potential conflict could arise between Luke Cage (Mike Colter) and Daredevil/Matt Murdoch (Charlie Cox).

Fans might recall in the second season of Daredevil that the Man Without Fear was not happy with the way The Punisher deal with the bad guys as he has his own brand of justice, whereas Luke Cage has a different take on this, being an ex-con and a former laboratory experiment.

However, these are all just speculations and theories as fans will have to wait first for Iron Fist to be released on Netflix in March 2017 and The Defenders‘ release date after that.
