Due to the popular demand, Descendants of the Sun Season 2 returns in 2017. However, the series will no longer focus on Yoo Shi-jin and Kang Mo-yeon’s romance. It will revolve around the second love team’s romance instead.
Song Joong-ki and Song Hye-kyo confirmed their absence in Descendants of the Sun Season 2. They explained that they have prior commitments before the planned second season. Slated to release in 2017, the series will change its focus to the other love team, Jin Goo and Kim Ji-won.
Soompi supported the claim about the “Song Song” couple’s absence. According to their report, KBS head of drama, Jung Sung Ho, stated that Song Hye Kyo will star in a new K-Drama with Lee Min Ho. On the other hand, Song Joong-ki committed to new “Battleship Island” movie.
“[Song Joong-ki and Song Hye-kyo] are advancing with projects that the production team and cast can consent to,” Jung said.
He also added that co-writer, Kim Eun Sook, shared about writing the plotline for season two. Kim mentioned that the plot is too heavy. In fact, they’re still discussing whether to continue the soldier’s story or not.
Though KBS tried to target 2017 broadcast, the network remained mum about affirming the next season premiere. In spite of the overwhelming requests from fans, Kim Won Suk, Descendants of the Sun writer, explained earlier that he has no plans to continue the story.
He’ll rather write about other historical dramas to target the market demand. They even planned to write a South Korean version of the American television series “Criminal Minds,” which KBS earlier announced as well.
Based from the same source, the said remake is collaborated between two networks, NEW and Taewon Entertainment. Like Descendants of the Sun Season 2 planned release, it will also air around early 2017.
In the meantime, the production team discusses the exact broadcast station the “Criminal Minds” Korea will air.
