It’s time to say goodbye to the hit CW show The Vampire Diaries. Lead actor of the show, Ian Somerhalder has confirmed that the show will end next year.
During an appearance on Sunday at WalkerStalkerCon in Nashville, Ian Somerhalder broke the sad news to his fans.
“We have decided to do one last season to really do the story justice,” Ian said, reports US Weekly.
The actor who plays the character of Damon Salvatore on the supernatural show achieved major fame thanks to the show. It will indeed be sad not to see the famous vampire brothers, Damon and Stefan Salvatore after 2017.
Earlier this week, Kat Graham who plays the character of Bonnie Bennet announced her exit from the show.
“Season 8 will be my last season,” Graham said. “I just hope that whatever I do after, the crew can come with me. If the crew can come with me, then we’ll be good. The crew is going to be the hardest thing to let go, because we are a family.”
She also added that Season 8 of the show is going to be huge.
“But you know what, another season is a whole other year, and we’re going to blow it out,” she said.
Though it will be sad watching the fans favorite show end, ratings of the show however have dipped after Nina Dobrev’s exit. Nina who played the character of Elena Gilbert left the show after season 5. Since then, ratings of the show dipped tremendously. The show has in fact been shifted to the Friday slot from Thursday.
According to reports, Nina left the show after her former boyfriend, Ian Somerhalder got married to her close friend and Twilight actress, Nikki Reed. Nina and Ian dated for four years before calling it quits in 2013.
