It has been a strenuous year for the cast and crew of NCIS: New Orleans and an even tougher season as one of its actors officially exits the show.
The police drama series’ year saw the passing of its long-time show creator and has been plagued by rumors of cancellation and now, Zoe McLellan, who played the Special Agent Merri Brody, would not be returning for the current season.
McLellan was widely speculated to leave the series for a while now and with the show’s bosses giving their confirmation of her impending departure, the actress won’t be returning for season 3.
The sudden departure of McLellan from the show sparked rumors and speculations were various reports claim that due to poor ratings the show could be canceled. Her exit could also affect the show’s ratings in the coming episodes.
Another rumor suggests that McLellan’s departure was something to do with the pay. Rumors have it that the actress had requested for a higher salary but got turned down by the show’s bosses.
Morning Ledger cites that McLellan left the show for personal reasons as the actress is said to focus more on her family. She is reportedly busy being a mother to her son and because of her hectic schedule, her relationship with him somehow got affected.
However, the executives have noted that McLellan’s departure was a creative decision and was part of the show’s storyline. McLellan’s character was romantically involved with a spy which compromised her position in the NCIS team.
In season two, Agent Brody had a relationship with John Russo, (Ivan Sergei) an undercover agent who turned out to be a traitor who helped the terrorists plan their attack. The team failed to subdue the terrorists, resulting in the team questioning Brody’s loyalty and intentions. In order to avoid further conflict, Brody left Agent Pride’s team and New Orleans.
The actress’ departure gave way to a new addition to the team as a new character will be introduced to be played by Vanessa Ferlito.
She will play FBI Special Agent Tammy Gregorio, who will be checking on Agent Pride’s NCIS team following Agent Brody’s relationship with a spy, according to Deadline.
NCIS New Orleans Season 3 airs every Tuesday at 10:00 p.m. first and exclusively on CBS Television Network.
