As NCIS Season 13 finale draws near, viewers of the popular CBS network show are wondering the reason behind Michael Weatherly’s character Tony DiNozzo leaving the series. The actor highlighted that his departure was planned for a long time and it was majorly influenced by Cote de Pablo’s character Ziva leaving the show after Season 11.
“Their great dynamic, the badinage and sparring and flirting between those two characters and how they would swing from siblings to near lovers and back to buddies. That was gone, and then I got to the point where I felt I’d stayed at the party for too long.” Weatherly said, as reported by TV Insider.
Tony DiNozzo had become a household name during Weatherly’s 13 year stint with NCIS and it was tough for the actor to leave everything. However, the 47-year-old also revealed that he has other things to do. He has a production company of his own and he also wants to spend some quality time with his family.
Meanwhile, there are speculations which are linking Cote de Pablo’s return for Michael Weatherly’s farewell episode on NCIS. Showrunner Gary Galsberg confirmed that fans may expect to see a huge guest cast appearing for the final episode. Robert Wagner, Laura San to Jo Spano are confirmed to appear on the episode. However, de Pablo’s appearance seems to be a mystery, as reported by FOX News.
We reported earlier the reason as to why Cote de Pablo won’t be returning to the series. The 36-year-old actress said that she disagreed with the writers regarding Ziva’s character development and hence will not return to the show unless something fantastic was written.
The final episode of NCIS Season 13 will be a roller coaster ride. At least this is what Galsberg is suggesting. The showrunner feels that the viewers will be connected with the episode and will get to know the deeper reason on how Ziva had an impact on Tony’s departure. He also revealed that Tony DiNozzo will be alive at the end.
NCIS Season 13 finale will air on CBS on May 17, 2016.
