Daredevil Season 2 is currently streaming on Netflix and one of its major characters, the Punisher is set to get its own spinoff series. Both Marvel and Netflix has ordered a Punisher series owing to its success on Daredevil Season 2.
Hannibal’s Steve Lightfoot will serve as the show runner of the series. The Punisher will mark the sixth series of the Marvel-Netflix collaboration which includes the upcoming Luke Cage, Iron Fist along with Jessica Jones, as reported by EW.
Although fans will be happy that Frank Castle will be back with Jon Bernthal reprising his role as the Punisher, some rumors suggest that this might spell doom for the Daredevil series. Ever since Season 2 of the Devil of Hell’s Kitchen released for viewers, the wait for Season 3 has started. However, with Marvel shifting its focus to The Defenders as well as few of its other series like Jessica Jones, Iron Fist and Luke Cage, the future of the Daredevil series looks bleak.
While many will see Matt Murdock taking on his masked vigilante persona in The Defenders, Marvel’s indifferent attitude towards the third season of Daredevil will scare the fans. Marvel is expecting huge things from The Defenders and it showed when they shifted Daredevil show runners Douglas Petrie and Marco Ramirez to The Defenders. They won’t be jeopardizing their Avengers concept of the Marvel-Netflix universe by focusing on the third season of Daredevil.
Netflix is stocked with Marvel releases this year and was forced to push the release of Jessica Jones Season 2 to accommodate the release of Luke Cage on Sept. 30, 2016. The global streaming service likes to keep a gap of six months between its Marvel releases and looking at its schedule, it doesn’t look good for Daredevil Season 3.
