Nina Dobrev blamed by Ian Somerhalder despite ‘The Vampire Diaries’ getting season 8

“The Vampire Diaries” recently got renewed for season 8 by CW. However, fans of the series are criticizing the decision and wanted it to end after season 7. Despite the series getting renewed, Ian Somerhalder is still unhappy with his ex-girlfriend Nina Dobrev whom he blames for the low ratings suffered by the current season.

There is still no clear reason as to why Nina Dobrev left the show. Rumors suggest that it might have been because of Ian Somerhalder’s wife Nikki Reed. Speculations point towards Dobrev not being able to get over Somerhalder’s marriage and thus leaving the top-rated show.

“The Vampire Diaries” has failed to reach the same heights of season 6 after Nina Dobrev left and has suffered a huge rating slump. Such has been the slide that the series has lost almost half of its regular viewers, as reported by Parent Herald.

Ian Somerhalder is said to be unhappy with the change in the show timings. The actor believes it to be a major factor behind the low ratings as the airing is not on primetime.

However, with the show set to be returning for yet another season, it will be interesting to see what plot changes the creative team makes to revamp the show and rake in more viewers, according to Design & Trend.

Since “The Vampire Diaries” would be returning for season 8, recent speculations of its cast joining the spin-off show “The Originals” will now fade off. This also takes away the opportunity of a reunion which could have seen Ian Somerhalder and Nina Dobrev pair up onscreen, yet again.

With some fans heavily criticizing the decision of making another season of “The Vampire Diaries”, the producers of the show and rest of the cast including Ian Somerhalder will have a tough time to hook the viewer’s back into watching the show again.
