The ratings for the once popular show “The Vampire Diaries” were hitting new lows, mostly after popular figure Nina Dobrev left the series. Season 7 by the CW Television Network is rumored to be the last of the series. Popular characters like Paul Wesley, Dobrev and Ian Somerhalder are speculated to be joining the spinoff series, “The Originals”.
Episode 15 titled “I Would For You” was the recent episode to be aired on March 4, 2016. Speculations of the show being cancelled arose when Damon played by Ian Somerhalder asked Bonnie (Kat Graham) to help him take the 60-year nap.
The x-factor of the show was the on-screen chemistry between Nina Dobrev and Ian Somerhalder. With Dobrev leaving the show, low ratings were expected, but very few predicted it to have a 0.1 which was experienced by the latest episode, as reported by Parent Herald.
The only silver lining that the fans have at the moment is the possibility of a reunion of the show’s cast. “The Originals” is a spinoff series to TVD and speculations are ripe regarding Somerhalder and Dobrev returning as an on-screen couple.
However, it is not yet certain whether the Bulgarian Canadian actress would indeed return to pair up with Ian. Nina will star in Vin Diesel’s upcoming action flick “xXx: The Return of Xander Cage” and has reportedly stated that she wants to concentrate completely on her movie career.
Dobrev is popular more for her relationship status than for her work on-screen. She wants to change that. Getting together with Somerhalder may create a media buzz which the actress may not want at this stage of her career.
Hence, although the fans would be delighted to see the entire cast of TVD return in “The Originals”, only time will tell if it is to happen.
