The new promo for the CW midseason series reveals the first look at the network’s take on the Archie Comics. Set in the present day, the teen drama will follow Archie (KJ Apa) and other popular characters from the comics. They will be in their sophomore year of high school and the story will involve a murder-mystery.

Riverdale‘s executive producer Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa said that the new CW series will be a little darker. He said that it will be a little bit weird and complex than fans remembered in the Archie Comics. “We’re saying it’s a little bit like Archie meets Twin Peaks,” Aguirre-Sacasa said to EW at San Diego Comic Con.
