Everton Manager Ronaldo Koeman would like to keep Romelu Lukaku at Everton for one more season. The Belgium international striker has been constantly linked with a move away from the club to one of Europe’s elites.
“I would keep him for next season at least,” Koreman said. The 54-year-old has insisted that he has no plans to sell Lukaku. The Dutch manager stressed that the striker should stay at Goodison Park for at least a season more.
Both Koeman and Lukaku have been inspirational for Everton this season. Both of them have helped the Toffees into seventh in the Premier League table. However, they are still six points off fourth, the final place for gaining entry into the Champions League.
Lukaku wants Champions League football
The 23-year-old Lukaku, whose contract with Everton ends in mid-2019, is looking for a club with Champions League football. The Belgian is unlikely to extend his stay at Merseyside.
Yannick Bolasie, Lukaku’s Everton teammate insisted that the Merseyside club will be unable to keep hold of the player. The Congolese believes that the man from Antwerp, Belgium has a plan and the club won’t be able to stop that.
“Players have ambition, as players they want to play in the highest team possible. And Rom for me right now, at his age, is a world-class striker and there aren’t many about like him,” Bolasie said, as reported by Express.co.uk.
“I speak to Rom every day and when a man has his plan, he has his plan,” he said. “You can’t really stop that.”
Chelsea, Manchester United chase Lukaku signature
Manchester United Manager Jose Mourinho is looking to enter a £70 million ($87m) transfer war with Chelsea for Romelu Lukaku’s signature. This is despite the fact that Zlatan Ibrahimovic has given a strong hint of staying at Old Trafford for another season.
Mourinho is looking for a long-term goal scoring solution at Old Trafford and there are no better alternatives than Premier League proven Lukaku. Bringing in the Belgium international along with Antoine Griezmann from Atletico Madrid will help solve United’s goal shortage.
However, it has to be noted that Mourinho sold Lukaku during his stint as the Chelsea manager. The Blues want to capitalize on this and bring in their former striker by offering a player + cash deal to Everton.
Lukaku is the current Premier League top scorer. His development since leaving Chelsea has been phenomenal. An opportunity to play for a Champions League heavyweight will be something the player would not like to give a miss.
