In light of Donald Trump winning the 2016 presidential race of the United States, it seems many Americans have been searching online, particularly the Google search engine, looking to flee a Trump presidency.

As early as March 2016, many people have been searching for “how can I move to Canada” that it reportedly spiked 350% according to Simon Rogers, a data editor at Google, as reported by CNN.

Similar searches and phrases have also gone up exponentially where it was up 455% from February up to Trump’s winning the presidential seat. While a search for “how can a” can get a quick result to “how can a president be removed from office,” people have been looking for that particular phrase in the aftermath of the US presidential election.

Additionally, searches for the Canadian Immigration have also gone up, according to data on Google Trends. Early reports also suggest that the Canadian immigration website crashed due to the sheer volume of people accessing the site.

Although there was no confirmation that there is a connection between a Trump presidency and the Canadian immigration website crashing, there is a strong indication that the two are connected, considering the loud insistence of many Americans in the event of an unfavorable election outcome, it is safe to assume that despondent voters are exploring options.

Celebrities have also threatened to leave the country, from Cher to Whoopi Goldberg to Barbra Streisand, if and when Trump ascends to the presidency and now that he is the 45th President of the United States, perhaps there will be an abundance of vacated roles in Hollywood.

A similar thing also happened to George W. Bush when he won his second term in 2004 but there is not much evidence if people followed through with their plans and pledges, according to CNN.

It will take more than a declaration to actually make a move to another country as it will require a lot of money, time and extensive paperwork. A lawyer can help, so is a job offer or a relative who has a citizenship, but it will require time and money.

In the meantime, let us see how a Donald Trump presidency will work for America.
