Cristiano Ronaldo apparently helped Neymar at the Ballon d’Or awards ceremony in January according to Daily Mail. The presenter of the ceremony, Kate Abdo told Football Beyond Borders that Ronaldo went out of his way to help Neymar at the ceremony especially with translation.
“At the Ballon d’Or which I did in January, we do a little rehearsal with the players before they are going to go on stage for real,” Abdo said.
Both players have faced each other many times but Abdo’s statements give a different picture of their so-called rivalry. In her interview she revealed that Ronaldo was looking out for Neymar.
“He [Ronaldo] came out with Neymar, who is Brazilian and Ronaldo is Portuguese, so they both speak Portuguese, and although [Lionel] Messi and Neymar are teammates, it was Ronaldo who took him around, showed him where he had to go, made sure everything was translated for him,” Abdo said.
“He was just very kind and very caring towards Neymar, the way he looked out for him and made sure he knew what he was doing. And that’s a side [of Ronaldo] maybe you don’t expect.”
Cristiano Ronaldo and Neymar lost the race to Lionel Messi. Messi has won the award for the world’s best football player for a record fifth time. Previously, Ronaldo has won the award three times. For Neymar however, he made it to the top three for the first time in his career.
In an interview he later said that it was already an honor for him to be at the Ballon d’Or awards ceremony with Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo. He also said that if he wins it someday, he’ll be very happy and very proud.
