Conor McGregor and UFC’s growing rift is the talking point of MMA world these days. Conor McGregor was once the blue-eyed boy of UFC. And now he is suddenly in the bad books of the organisation.
So, who is responsible for the rift between Conor McGregor and UFC then? Is the rift due to money, McGregor’s growing popularity, Dana White’s insecurity or something else.
Conor McGregor sent the MMA world into meltdown by tweeting last week that he is retiring, only to be officially kicked out of UFC 200. After UFC’s announcement, McGregor’s coach John Kavanagh appealed to people to ask UFC to take him back in the fight.
So, did Kavanagh then made the situation worse for McGregor? Is he responsible then for the growing rift between McGregor and UFC?
Chael Sonnen thinks so. According to him, Kavanagh has made the situation worse for Conor.
“His coach cannot be putting anything out about him ever. Period. Ever. Because he doesn’t get it!” Sonnen said, reports Bloody Elbow. “Respectfully, coach Kavanagh, You don’t get it. You don’t get it! Your student does. He gets it. Conor knows what’s going on.”
“Every time you talk and think you’re helping him, you’re not. You’re hurting the cause. You have to stop!”
Sonnen’s comments comes after Kavanagh told people that McGregor is still training for UFC 200.
“You guys have got to get on the same page,” Sonnen said. “You want to hustle some hustlers, you better believe you’ve got to be on the same page! You can’t have one guy say I don’t give a damn, and have his trainer say ‘boy, we sure would like to fight, can someone send some tweets in our favor?’ It doesn’t work!”
Sonnen not just blasted Kavanagh but McGregor too for the way he has handled the situation.
“Conor cannot put a post saying ‘money made, bills paid, game slayed. Your move,’ which means ‘I do not care what happens, I’m handled either way. It’s your move.’” he said. “He can’t do that and three days later have you come out saying hey fans, please petition and get him back.”
