Kostas Manolas to Chelsea, Arsenal transfer update; Roma stay unlikely

Kostas Manolas will likely be heading to the English Premier League (EPL) soon as he has turned down a contract extension offer with AS Roma, his current club. The Greek center-back is being chased by the likes of Chelsea and Arsenal with Manchester United having an outside chance of capturing the player.

The 25-year-old Manolas has been a pillar in defense for Roma since he joined the club in 2014. His impressive performances for the Giallorossi has raised an interested from the big fishes of the game and the man from Naxos, Greece is being heavily linked with a move to the Premier League, according to Tom Olver of Metro.

The center-back is being valued at $40 million and any clubs interested will have to shell out this amount if they want to prize away the defender from the Italian capital this summer. Arsenal currently leads the chase of capturing the player, followed by Chelsea and then Manchester United.

“It’s true, I can confirm we have not agreed a contract renewal with Roma. Could he [Manolas] reach it over the next few weeks? I doubt he will.” Iannis Evangelopoulos, Manolas’ agent said when asked about his client rejecting a $3 million-per-season contract from staying in the capital.

Manolas has featured in 37 games for Roma in the Serie A where he has won 49 tackles with a success rate of 56%. He has made a total of 71 interceptions, 28 blocks and 160 clearances for his club, which has to be considered impressive, as reported by

Arsenal coach, Arsene Wenger will like to strengthen his defense after the Gunners blew away their best possible chance of winning the EPL last season. Chelsea manager Antonio Conte is always a strong admirer of good defenders and will like to bring in the Greek as a long-term replacement for the ageing Blues legend John Terry. Manchester United manager, Jose Mourimho on the other hand will like to add an experienced central defender partnering Chris Smalling at the back, despite bringing in the likes of Eric Bailly this summer.
