Brandon Knight was moved to a sixth man role this new NBA season but it has not netted positive returns both for the guard and the Phoenix Suns so far. There are now NBA rumors that Knight will be traded soon even though he has struggled in the early part of the regular season.
Suns general manager Ryan McDonough admitted in a recent interview that they are not looking to trade Knight but understood that the point guard might want to get a starting PG job back sometime in the future.
Sticking with or trading Brandon Knight?
“We’re certainly not looking to move Brandon, we haven’t been close to trading Brandon. I think he’d love to be starting, we understand that. He’s accepted the role very well. I think you guys will see him go on a run here,” McDonough said via Arizona Sports.
“As you know, watching him play the last couple years, he has the ability to get hot and put up a lot of points in a hurry and take over stretches of games — he hasn’t done that yet for us consistently but I think it’s coming.”
The Suns GM is panning patience with regards to the Knight situation but the team has already committed to Eric Bledsoe and Devin Booker as the future backcourt starters for the team this season and the future. This makes Knight the odd man out and they had no choice but to move him to a reserve role before the season started.
Suns struggling could lead to Knight trade
The Suns were expected to be one of the lottery teams this year. But they have been playing even worse with a 3-9 win-loss record so far this year.
There have been multiple NBA rumors with regards to Knight earlier in the season and offseason. One trade has linked him to the Philadelphia 76ers, who badly needs a starting PG. The Sixers can offer one of Nerlens Noel or Jahlil Okafor to Phoenix as both are reportedly on the trading block.
