The Los Angeles Clippers emerged as the top trade destination for the reportedly available Carmelo Anthony. The Clippers are not only eyeing to dominate the Western Conference but win the NBA championship title this season. Can Anthony help the Clippers beat the Warriors’ “Super Death Lineup?”
Despite his desire to stay with the New York Knicks, Carmelo Anthony continues to be the subject of numerous trade rumors. The Knicks offered Anthony to several teams, including the Cavaliers and the Clippers. Cleveland rejected the deal and stated that they have no intention of trading Kevin Love.
For the Clippers, the Knicks are not demanding any of their “Big Three”. However, according to ESPN’s Ramona Shelburne and Marc Stein, the Clippers and the Knicks are seeking for a third team to make a Carmelo Anthony deal happen.
“Sources told ESPN that the Knicks continue to discuss the prospect of sending Anthony to Los Angeles without taking any of the Clippers’ top three stars. But, they have struggled to find a trade construction that works for both teams involving the other players on L.A.’s roster.”
Carmelo Anthony the key to beat the Warriors’ “Super Death Lineup”?
According to Dan Woike of O.C. Register, the Clippers aren’t playing this season just to make an appearance in the Western Conference Finals. They are eyeing to beat the Golden State Warriors and win their first NBA championship title this year. Coach Doc Rivers revealed that they are going to do anything to achieve their goal.
“It’s the same thing,” Doc Rivers said. “Whatever helps us win it is what you’re going to do.”
In the recent offseason, the Clippers tried to boost their roster by pursuing Kevin Durant. Unfortunately, KD decided to join the reigning Western Conference champions. The Warriors were already a formidable team even before Durant arrived.
Now that he’s inserted in the 73-9 win Warriors, most people don’t see any team who can stop them from winning the championship title this season. The Clippers remain as one of the teams who can challenge the Warriors. When all of their “Big Three” are healthy, they have the capability to beat any team.
However, they obviously need an upgrade at small forward. This could be the reason why the Clippers are strongly considering adding Carmelo Anthony to their roster. With DeAndre Jordan, Blake Griffin, Chris Paul, J.J. Redick, and Anthony, there is a higher chance that the Clippers can match the Warriors’ “Super Death Lineup.”
