The New York Knicks are currently in a mess and this could force Carmelo Anthony to waive his “no trade” clause in his contract and demand a trade to a contender like the Boston Celtics. The Celtics and Knicks are East rivals but there are NBA rumors that being trade partners could be great for their respective chances this 2016-2017 NBA Season.
The trade speculations are growing in New York after a Knicks’ bad start to the regular season. These deals mention other Knicks like Kristaps Porzingis and Derrick Rose but New York could get the best deal if they dangle “Melo” in a trade.
New York beat the Brooklyn Nets on Wednesday but are just 3-4 so far this season. This was not the start they were looking forward to when they acquired Rose, Brandon Jennings, Courtney Lee and Joakim Noah during the offseason.
With a veteran team and new head coach in Jeff Hornacek, expectations are high in New York and that the Knicks should at least battle for a playoff spot this season.
Porzingis is a high value talent and they will demand a star back but it’s not wise to give up on the young big man whose ceiling is very high. Rose has little value basketball-wise but he has a big expiring contract that can be valuable for a team looking to cut salary after the season.
Carmelo Anthony to Boston; Celtics’ young guns to New York Knicks
That leaves Anthony as the best trade option for New York if they want the best value, and help them rebuild the franchise around potential superstar Porzingis.
Like the Knicks, expectations are high in Boston after they acquired Al Horford last summer. They struggled with injuries early but at 3-4, they don’t look like a team that can challenge LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers in winning the Eastern Conference.
Carmelo could be the saving grace the Celtics need if they want to move up another level. And they have the goods to convince the Knicks that it’s time for Melo to leave New York.
As earlier noted in other NBA rumors, Carmelo Anthony for Jaylen Brown, Avery Bradley and Amir Johnson works for both squads. The Celtics add a superstar and the Knicks reload with young talent.
Should the Knicks and Celtics agree to a deal to improve their future and chances this season?
