The Cleveland Cavaliers stay undefeated and continue to show their dominance in the 2016-17 NBA season. Despite a good start, NBA rumors claimed that the Cavaliers are interested in acquiring Nerlens Noel and Ricky Rubio in a blockbuster deal involving the Minnesota Timberwolves and the Philadelphia 76ers.

It is quite easy to understand why the Cavaliers are still involved in trade rumors despite being the only team who still unbeaten this season. Though they managed to retain their core of LeBron James, Kyrie Irving, Kevin Love, J.R. Smith, and Tristan Thompson, the Cavaliers lost two of their important bench players this offseason – Timofey Mozgov and Matthew Dellavedova.

As of now, the Cavaliers rely on rookie point guard Kay Felder to backup Kyrie Irving. Felder might have shown a good impression in the preseason games but he still needs to gain more experience. According to Joe Vardon of, Cavaliers head coach Tyronn Lue revealed that Felder will be their backup PG ‘for now’, hinting that they are still looking for someone who is more worthy of the role.

In the recent offseason, the Cavaliers were also reportedly looking for a quality rim protector. According to Adrian Lawhorn of, the Cavaliers are engaging in a three-team deal with the Minnesota Timberwolves, and the Philadelphia 76ers. This trade could give the reigning champions an experienced backup point guard and a quality rim protector.

In the said trade scenario, the Cavaliers will receive Nerlens Noel and Ricky Rubio. The Sixers will be acquiring Shabazz Muhammad, Jordan McRae, Mike Dunleavy and the contract of Mo Williams. The Timberwolves will get Iman Shumpert, Channing Frye, Nik Stauskas, and a second-round pick from Philadelphia. This works on the ESPN trade machine.

If this trade proceeds, it will definitely help all the three teams in filling up the needs to improve on their roster. Ricky Rubio will give the Cavaliers a good backup for Kyrie Irving while Nerlens Noel provides them a quality rim protector. For the Sixers, trading Noel now will be the best option than losing him in 2017 free agency without getting anything in return.

Shabazz Muhammad, Jordan McRae, and Mike Dunleavy will give them more options at the shooting guard position and at the wings. Zach Lowe of ESPN revealed last month that the Timberwolves are inquiring about the availability of Iman Shumpert. The Timberwolves want to add a veteran presence on their team and Shumpert could help fit the bill as an athletic piece with championship experience.
