The Sacramento Kings’ search for a new head coach became the center of rumors after the said dispute between former coach George Karl and Kings star DeMarcus Cousins. According to ESPN, the Kings are planning to interview former Cleveland Cavaliers head coach David Blatt for the vacant position.
According to a report from CBS Sports, DeMarcus Cousins said in a radio interview that the Kings could be in the playoffs if Michael Malone was still the coach. Also, in Cousins’ Twitter account, he called his former coach George Karl a “snake in the grass”.
There were no confirmation about Cousins’ involvement in firing George Karl as Kings’ head coach but it might serve as a hindrance for the Sacramento Kings to hire their preferred coach knowing that one of their star player was reportedly having an ‘attitude’.
David Blatt was controversially fired by the Cleveland Cavaliers in January after posting 30-11 record at the start of the season. Blatt’s coaching experience was undeniable after bringing the Cavaliers in the last year’s NBA finals despite lacking of star players due to injury.
Many people, including current Cavaliers head coach Tyronn Lue, are expecting that Blatt will be having a job in the league soon. He said that Blatt deserves a place in the league.
”He definitely deserves another chance,” Lue said via Yahoo Sports. ”I thought Coach Blatt did a great and phenomenal job here. He taught me a lot. Just being friends with him and getting a chance to understand him was great for me. I know a lot of guys around here, we talked about it the other day, they miss him and his presence.”
“Hopefully, he gets another job in this league because he deserves it.”
There is a possibility that Blatt would be considered as the next Kings’ head coach. However, with DeMarcus Cousins’ recent attitude, it might bring back memories of him being fired because of a ‘player’ despite having good performance in a team.
Blatt will be competing among other candidates for the Sacramento Kings’ head coach position including Sam Mitchell, Vinny Del Negro, Mike Woodson and Kevin McHale.
David Blatt was also interviewed by the New York Knicks last week and was reported to be on the list of the potential candidates for the Los Angeles Lakers’ vacancy before the Lakers officially named Luke Walton as their head coach.
