LaMarcus Aldridge is reportedly unhappy with the San Antonio Spurs and that a trade involving the big man is expected this 2016-2017 NBA Season, according to latest NBA rumors.
Could the Chicago Bulls swoop in and add the star forward to form a formidable team in the Eastern Conference? Would the Spurs, which still want to contend for a title this season even if they trade Aldridge, settle for a deal that surrounds around defensive big man Taj Gibson?
Allana Tachauer of Hoops Habit claims that the Bulls should “absolutely” consider trading for Aldridge.
The writer has a point since the Bulls are in “win now” mode in the upcoming season. By signing Dwyane Wade and Rajon Rondo to play alongside franchise player Jimmy Butler, anything short of a playoff appearance will be considered a disappointment in Chicago.
Getting Aldridge will move them from being playoff contenders to legit title contenders from the Eastern Conference.
How LaMarcus Aldridge to Chicago Bulls can happen
The Spurs won’t give up their big man without worthy pieces so the Bulls can start by offering Taj Gibson, Nikola Mirotic and Jerian Grant.
Gibson will reunite in the frontcourt with Pau Gasol in San Antonio’s frontcourt and Mirotic is the kind of player head coach Gregg Popovich can develop into a regular starter or even an NBA star.
In the Spurs’ new roster, Gasol and Gibson starts alongside Kawhi Leonard, Danny Green and Tony Parker and they will have a more balanced team that features more defense. Mirotic can play off the bench.
For the Bulls, they start Aldridge alongside Robin Lopez to complete the starting five that features Wade, Butler and Rondo. It’s a veteran team that can give LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers a run for their money.
