NBA rumors are swirling around Nikola Vucevic of the Orlando Magic. According to NBA analysts, he is one of the NBA players who should be dealt before the February deadline. Dallas Mavericks emerge as the top trade destination for the 26-year-old center.
The arrival of Serge Ibaka and Bismack Biyombo affects Vucevic’s role in Orlando. Some people believe he will be demoted from the starting lineup if he will not be traded. So far, Nikola Vucevic remains as the Magic’s starting center.
In four seasons, Vucevic served as the star of offense in Orlando. However, the 26-year-old center struggled on the offensive end early this season. He only averaged 10.9 points per game. The lowest since he joined the team in 2012.
“I’m trying to figure that one out,” Vucevic said. “It’s never happened to me that I shoot so poorly from the field.”
According to Josh Robbins of Orlando Sentinel, Ibaka and Biyombo have somehow affected Vucevic’s performance. Both big men could play at 5 and much better defenders than Vucevic. This season, he only received an average of 27.2 minutes per game.
Nikola Vucevic has been frequently mentioned in various trade rumors in the past months. According to Adam Fromal of Bleacher Report, the Dallas Mavericks would be the best destination for Vucevic.
“It would be best for everyone if they broke up the logjam: Allow Bismack Biyombo to take on a bigger role while trusting Stephen Zimmerman with a spot in the rotation. Let Vucevic thrive as a featured scoring option on a team that needs a distinct offensive boost—the Dallas Mavericks may well be the best destination, even after Dirk Nowitzki is healthy,” Fromal wrote.
Vucevic will definitely give a boost to the Mavericks’ offense. Having a low-post scorer could help space the floor for their shooters. Also, Dirk Nowitzki could play in his natural position at 4. In a suggested trade scenario, the Mavericks send Devin Harris, Justin Anderson, J.J. Barea and a second-round pick to Orlando for Vucevic.
This trade works on the ESPN trade machine. So far, there is no indication if the Magic will trade Vucevic. If his struggle continues, a deal involving the big man could happen before the deadline.
