Rumors and speculations are now swirling around the Oklahoma City Thunder and the Memphis Grizzlies, who is reportedly having trade talks involving Anthony Morrow, Vince Carter, and JaMychal Green.
The Memphis Grizzlies are one of the NBA teams who dreamt of contending for the NBA championship title this season. The 2016 NBA playoffs were a disaster for the Grizzlies as two of their key players, Mike Conley and Marc Gasol, suffered an injury, resulting for them to be easily eliminated in the first round.
The Grizzlies started the 2016-17 NBA season with a win-loss record of 4-4. There are speculations that they are still eyeing to improve their roster by adding some depth on the wing. According to Mac Trammell of SB Nation’s Grizzly Bear Blues, the Grizzlies could trade for Anthony Morrow of the Oklahoma City Thunder.
Anthony Morrow is in the last year of the three-year, $10 million deal with the Thunder. With the departure of Kevin Durant, Russell Westbrook is expected to carry a heavier load this season. If the Thunder fails to at least enter the Western Conference Finals, there are speculations that they are considering to add another superstar to their team.
The Thunder have been frequently mentioned in various trade rumors where Anthony Morrow was often included in the deal. The 31-year-old shooting guard only received a minimal playing time since he joined the Thunder in 2014. However, for a team like the Grizzlies, who need a depth in the wing, Morrow could be of use.
“Memphis has always needed shooting, and Morrow would provide that. He’s a career 42.5 percent shooter from deep, and though his per game numbers took a drastic dip last year, his per 36 minutes and per 100 possessions numbers slid only slightly. This small regression meant his production last season remained efficient despite playing nearly half as many minutes as the year before,” Trammell wrote.
In a suggested trade scenario, the Memphis Grizzlies will be sending Vince Carter and JaMychal Green to the Oklahoma City Thunder for Anthony Morrow. This trade works on the ESPN trade machine. The Thunder will surely agree with this trade since Carter and Green have shown an impressive performance earlier this season.
Also, Vince Carter could be a good mentor for rookie forward Domantas Sabonis. If this trade becomes a reality, it will definitely help both teams in filling up the needs to improve on their roster.
