The Orlando Magic are reportedly interested in acquiring a scorer on the trade market. The latest NBA rumors claimed that the Magic target Rudy Gay of the Sacramento Kings.
In the recent offseason, the Magic acquired two centers, Bismack Biyombo, and Serge Ibaka, to boost their defense. Some people questioned this move since the Magic already have Nikola Vucevic and Aaron Gordon. So far, the Magic are 14-18 and in the 12th spot in the Eastern Conference.
With the addition of Biyombo and Ibaka, the Magic’s defensive efficiency improved by 0.1 compared to last season. However, their offense suffered as they are now ranked 28th, only scoring 99.9 points per 100 possessions.
With their goal to enter the playoffs, adding a scorer to their team should be an option.

In the past months, various rumors continue to circulate around Rudy Gay. The 30-year-old small forward informed the Kings that he will be exercising his player option to become a free agent next summer. Trading him now would be the best option for the Kings than losing him in the 2017 NBA free agency without getting anything in return.
However, Gay is the Kings’ second scoring leader. In 23 games, he averaged 18.6 points, 6.2 rebounds, and 3.0 assists. Gay will undeniably boost the Magic’s offense and give them another floor spacer.
NIKOLA VUCEVIC, ELFRID PAYTON TO SACTOWN?
According to Bleacher Report, the Magic could trade one of their bigs to acquire Rudy Gay from the Sacramento Kings. These include Serge Ibaka, Bismack Biyombo, and Nikola Vucevic. Trading one of their big men will unclog their crowded frontcourt while addressing their scoring problem.
In an appearance on The Lowe Post, ESPN’s Brian Windhorst revealed that the Magic are willing to trade Vucevic and Elfrid Payton.
“Orlando wants to trade Nikola Vucevic too, and they’re kind of done with Elfrid Payton,” Windhorst said.
Trading Vucevic to Sacramento would be questionable since the Kings have a plethora of big men. However, none of them could prove to be a good frontcourt partner with DeMarcus Cousins.
Vucevic is a good low-post scorer who can allow “Boogie” to maximize his effectiveness on the perimeter and form a potent twin tower combo in Sacramento. If the Kings-Magic trade proceeds, it will help both teams in filling up the needs to improve on their roster.
