The Washington Wizards continue to struggle in the 2016-17 NBA season and there are speculations that they are eyeing to rebuild their roster via trade. According to the latest NBA rumors, the Wizards will be sending John Wall to the Denver Nuggets for Emmanuel Mudiay, Jusuf Nurkic, and 2017 draft picks.
John Wall and the Washington Wizards are not doing well early this season and currently on the 14th spot in the Eastern Conference with a 2-7 win-loss record. If they fail to enter the 2017 NBA playoffs, there are rumors that Wall could demand a trade from the Wizards.
The former 1st overall pick continues to get frustrated with his team’s performance. If the Wizards will not make a move, it will not be a surprise if they ended up as one of the worst teams in the league. Meanwhile, the Denver Nuggets are also in the same situation.
The Nuggets missed the playoffs for three straight years, and haven’t won more than 36 games in a season during that stretch. With their current status, Denver will not be an attractive free agent destination next summer. The only way that they could add a superstar on their team is via trade.
According to Kevin O’Connor of The Ringer, the Denver Nuggets could be interested in acquiring John Wall from the Washington Wizards.
“Most teams don’t need a point guard, since it’s one of the deepest positions in the league, and even if Wall were considered an upgrade, he might not be worth the assets it would require to get him. But the Nuggets are a team in need of one.”
“Maybe that point guard is Mudiay, but he isn’t necessarily the answer at just 20 years old, and with shaky shooting and decision-making. Wall is the sure bet: a legitimate 20-plus-point-per-game scorer, a lightning bolt in the open floor, and a virtuoso navigating defenses,” O’Connor said.
In a suggested trade scenario by O’Connor, the Nuggets will be trading Emmanuel Mudiay, Jusuf Nurkic, and 2017 draft picks for John Wall. This trade works on the ESPN trade machine. This deal will definitely help both teams in filling up the needs to improve on their roster.
If the Nuggets succeed in acquiring Wall, there are speculations that they could target DeMarcus Cousins next. Wall and “Boogie” were former teammates in Kentucky and there is no doubt that they will tremendously improve the Nuggets’ performance. For the Wizards, acquiring young assets like Emmanuel Mudiay and Jusuf Nurkic, together with future draft picks, will help them speed up the rebuilding process while giving Bradley Beal the spotlight he wants.
