NFL Trade Deadline 2016 – If Joe Thomas is dealt by the Cleveland Browns, the most likely destination is to the New York Giants, according to rumors before the NFL trade deadline Tuesday.
According to ESPN, the Giants are very interested in acquiring the Browns left tackle, but it’s not clear what trade package can New York offer for a Browns team that is building for the future. It’s reportedly going to be a “substantial package” for Cleveland to budge and that could start if the Giants can offer a future first round or high draft pick.
NFL Trade Deadline 2016 blockbuster see Joe Thomas with the New York Giants
The Browns are currently winless at 0-8 this season and have already made a big trade before the trade deadline. The Browns are the only team in the league without a victory halfway into the 2016 NFL season. Cleveland got star linebacker Jamie Collins from the New England Patriots earlier this week in exchange for a third-round compensatory pick.
A similar deal with the Giants is possible in the Joe Thomas deal. New York is still in the playoff race with a 4-3 record and coming off back-to-back wins over the Baltimore Ravens and Los Angeles Rams. They have a big matchup coming in their next game as they take on division rivals Philadelphia Eagles, which are also at 4-3 so far this season.
But with the future in mind for the Browns, they want young prospects or high draft picks from the Giants. It’s not clear if New York wants to go down that road and if they see themselves as a Super Bowl contender this season.
The 31-year-old Thomas was with the Browns last 10 seasons and joining a playoff contender like New York can be good for his career.
