As earlier reported, there is a big possibility that the San Antonio Spurs may trade LaMarcus Aldridge during the 2016-2017 NBA Season. One team that is reportedly interested according to latest rumors and speculations are the Boston Celtics, who still wants to improve their roster this year to get a better shot at beating LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers.

The Celtics have the right to swap first round picks for the lottery-bound Brooklyn Nets and they have young prospect Jaylen Brown in the roster. A package involving these trade assets could convince the Spurs that a deal with Boston could be the best possible package if Aldridge in San Antonio does not work out in the new NBA season.

Jackie McMullan of ComCast claims that she has sources that told her that LaMarcus Aldridge “may not even finish the year with the Spurs.”

“That experiment hasn’t quite worked out the way they’d hoped. I think there’s going to be a lot of shifting around. That (Nets) pick is going to be very, very valuable.” MacMullan added, as she also referred to the possibility that Aldridge could land with the Celtics.

“No, not after what I heard the other day. No, of course, you would take him on if you could because he’s an automatic double-double but there’s some stuff going on maybe.”

The Brown and Nets’ first rounder is reportedly the same Celtics’ package that they offer to other teams in Boston’s goal to add another star in the line-up. The Celtics are also linked to teams like the Chicago Bulls (Jimmy Butler) and Philadelphia 76ers (Jahlil Okafor).

It’s not clear if the Spurs are willing to settle for this package, plus other players to make the salaries match, in exchange for Aldridge. San Antonio is one of the teams that could beat the powerhouse squad Golden State Warriors, which features two-time MVP Stephen Curry and All-Stars Kevin Durant, Draymond Green and Klay Thompson.

If the Spurs trade Aldridge, they’d be left with veteran center Pau Gasol in the frontcourt plus budding superstar Kawhi Leonard. However, Gregg Popovich is one of the best head coaches in the league, so any worthy package San Antonio will get from Boston could work with the Spurs both in the new season and long-term.

How Celtics, Spurs pull off the LaMarcus Aldridge to Boston trade rumors

Via ESPN Trade Checker, the Celtics could send Amir Johnson, Marcus Smart and Jaylen Brown to the Spurs in exchange for Aldridge. Boston can add the Brooklyn 2017 first rounder and San Antonio will have to think hard about letting go of their superstar forward since these are lots of valuable players.

The Celtics could be giving up a lot of assets but after this trade, they will have an Al Horford and LaMarcus Aldridge frontcourt and they maintain depth in the backcourt.

This new line-up for the Celtics could give LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers a run for their money in the Eastern Conference.
