Steven Gerrard is considering the next stage of his career. After his 18-month stint with LA Galaxy, the former England international finds himself on the interim of coaching and playing duties.
Italian Serie A outfit Inter Milan and Gerrard’s former and boyhood club Liverpool are chasing the signature of the 36-year-old. While Liverpool provides Gerrard with an opportunity to hone his coaching skills under Jurgen Klopp, Inter will give him six more months of playing time.
The Italian outfit made contact with Gerrard in October, this year. This was before Frank de Boer was sacked as their manager. Inter officials see the LA Galaxy midfielder as the perfect option to get them out of their woes.
Inter currently sit ninth in the Serie A table, 13 points behind leaders Juventus. None of their summer acquisitions have worked until now. The likes of Joao Mario and Ever Banega have failed to justify their transfer fees. The club has also experienced a humiliating defeat by Southampton in the Europa League.
Stefano Pioli was appointed as the new head coach of Inter on November 8, 2016. It is still unclear of what the new gaffer thinks on signing Gerrard in the winter transfer window. However, close sources reveal that the higher officials of the club’s boardroom want the deal to materialize, according to Independent.
Gerrard to coach Liverpool academy prospects under Jurgen Klopp
There are rumors that Liverpool are in prime position to land Steven Gerrard in January. The Premier League giants are confident of bringing their club legend back at Anfield.
BetStars has priced Gerrard at 4/6 to make a return to his boyhood club. However, he won’t be given any playing duties. The man from Whiston, United Kingdom will be made assistant to club manager Jurgen Klopp.
“The most likely outcome is that Steven Gerrard returns to Liverpool in a coaching role, initially working with academy prospects. Who wouldn’t want to work under Jurgen Klopp?” a BetStars spokesperson said, as reported by Express.
The website has also priced Gerrard at 15/8 to land in Celtic. MK Dons are also courting the midfielder and want him to take over their vacant managerial position.
