Independent wrestler and jobber James Ellsworth has taken over the WWE after getting two wins over WWE World Champion A.J. Styles. Many fans are hoping that he gets permanently signed and the latest rumors suggest that he might end up getting a contract with SmackDown Live.
The 32-year-old wrestler made headlines back on July 25 in an episode of Monday Night Raw wherein he got squashed by Braun Strowman. However, the internet loved his no chin look and his catchphrase, “Every man with two hands has a fighting chance.”
Ellsworth was then given an opportunity by SmackDown Live general manager Daniel Bryan when he went one-on-one with A.J. Styles on October 11. He defeated Styles via pinfall with the help of special guest referee Dean Ambrose.
The Baltimore native challenged Styles for the WWE World title this week on SmackDown and he won via disqualification. Now, fans are hoping that he will be signed by the WWE permanently despite not having the prototypical look of the WWE superstar.
According to Steve Carrier of All Wrestling News, James Ellsworth is currently working on a per date basis with the WWE and he is not under any permanent deal. He was not told about any future plans for him after this week’s SmackDown show.
However, the WWE might be teasing the possibility of Ellsworth being part of SmackDown Live in the future. The company recently asked the fans on what should Ellsworth receive after defeating Styles once again on SmackDown.
As of today, the leading answer is James Ellsworth receiving a SmackDown Live contract from Daniel Bryan, per Wrestle Zone. It is worth noting that the WWE gives out surveys to gauge the fans interest on something and base their next plans on it.
In addition to the survey, the WWE should be really happy with James Ellsworth since his merchandise is the top seller among new releases. According to Wrestling Inc, Ellsworth’s t-shirt is outselling Goldberg, Dean Ambrose and Seth Rollins.
Nevertheless, these are just purely speculative but fans cannot seem to get enough of James Ellsworth. There are even rumors of him being part of the 2017 Royal Rumble at the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas.
