Manchester United won’t allow forward Anthony Martial to leave the club in January. However, the Frenchman’s agent, Philippe Lamboley has confirmed that there is an interest in his client from La Liga outfit Sevilla.
“We’re studying the Sevilla option very closely,” Lamboley said. “Sevilla is a very good club, in a good position in La Liga. They’re in the Champions League and have a great coach. That’s what I can say.” Lamboley said to ABC de Sevilla.
Lamboley also stressed that Martial is considering a move away from United given his lack of first-team opportunities recently. The 21-year-old has started just one of the club’s last four competitive matches, according to ESPN.
Martial came off the bench for the last 16 minutes in United’s comfortable 3-1 Premier League victory over Sunderland on Boxing Day. The France international has so far struggled to make a mark under new manager Jose Mourinho this season.
Mourinho has asked Martial to follow the example of club compatriot Henrikh Mkhitaryan. The Armenian was out-of-favor during the early parts of the season but forced his way back into the starting lineup through some impressive performances, as reported by Sky Sports.
The man from Massy, France has scored only once and has three assists under his belt this season. This is a huge contrast to the player’s contributions from last season.
Martial had a superb first season for United under former manager Louis Van Gaal. The Frenchman was the top scorer for the Red Devils last season in which he scored 17 goals.
The former Monaco striker became the most expensive teenager in football history when he arrived at Old Trafford for $44 million in September 2015. He made an instant impact after scoring a fantastic solo goal on his debut against Liverpool at home. United won the tie 3-1.
Martial continued to impress the Manchester United faithful’s for the rest of the season. He helped the Red Devils win the FA Cup in May. This was the club’s first major trophy since the retirement of Sir Alex Ferguson.
