Atletico Madrid striker Antoine Griezmann will join Manchester United in the summer. This is according to former Monaco, Arsenal, Barcelona and Chelsea midfielder Emmanuel Petit. The French football legend believes that the 25-year-old will blossom alongside Paul Pogba in the Premier League.
Griezmann became Atletico Madrid’s highest goalscorer in the Champions League against Bayer Leverkusen with his 13th striker on Wednesday. The striker has been linked with a host of Premier League clubs. It includes the likes of Arsenal and United in recent weeks.
“I think he will come to Manchester United – definitely. He has a great partnership with Pogba in the national team, they are very good friends as well,” Petit said to Sky Sports. “He will bring goals, assists and his winning mentality.”
Pogba and Griezmann have an excellent rapport with each other in the French national team. The duo has linked well together in the Euro 2016. Both pairing up at Old Trafford will be a great benefit for the Les Bleus.
However, the former Real Sociedad winger has cooled down recent speculations linking him with a move to Manchester. The man from Mâcon, France has insisted on achieving success with his present club this term.
Despite the striker claiming against a move, Petit stressed that Griezmann has a hunger to prove and will be a huge success in England. The former France international will know the English game as he himself enjoyed some fierce rivalry with United in the late 1990s, as reported by Mail Online.
“Griezmann, over the last four years, has improved step by step. Every single year he has improved his level all the time so he has got big ambition personally but as well with the team he is playing for. For me it would be a big bargain for Manchester United,” Petit added.
Atletico sees Alexandre Lacazette as Griezmann replacement
Atletico Madrid is reluctant to let their star striker Antoine Griezmann leave in the summer. However, they have Alexandre Lacazette as his replacement in mind should the France international decide to leave for United at the end of the season.
Lacazette, Lyon striker was the subject of failed transfer bids last summer from Arsenal and West Ham United. However, the player can leave at the end of the current season, according to The Daily Telegraph.
Lacazette is one of the top strikers in world football at the moment. The 25-year-old is being courted by top clubs across Europe including ones in the Premier League.
Ateltico are reportedly long-time admirers of the striker. The La Liga side will be stepping up their interest should their star forward Griezmann seek greener pastures abroad.
