English Premier League (EPL) club Arsenal’s fan demand success. They have been devoid of it for a long time and the club’s unwillingness to spend big in the transfer market has been heavily criticized within the supporter’s community. The Gunners manager Arsene Wenger now knows how much money he has at his disposal to spend for transfers next season.
The club is expected to spend in the region of $77.68 million in the upcoming summer transfer window for recruiting new players. This means that Arsene Wenger will have to sell some of his own players to gain the required amount, if he wants to bring in a world-class striker the fans have been craving for so long, according to author Ravi Lockyer, as reported by the Evening Standard.
“What we have with Arsenal is a number of expectation gaps. First and foremost that is between what the fans expect from the club and what the club could comfortably spend.” Lockyer said.
Lockyer went on to stress on the fact that Arsenal is not the sort of club who builds around short-term success. The club hierarchy wants to build a sustainable team who stays in the Premier Legaue for the “next five, 10, 15 years’ time”.
Meanwhile, if sources are to be believed then Borussia Monchengladbach’s Granit Xhaka will make his transfer to Arsenal pretty soon. The midfielder will cost The Gunners around $48.53 million, which will leave only $29.15 million left to spend on other players. It has to be noted that Arsenal were the only club in the Premier Leauge not to sign an outfield player last summer. The only player they signed was goalkeeper Petr Cech from Chelsea.
Arsene Wenger’s team will take on the relegated side Aston Villa in the final Premier League match of the season this Sunday.
