Arsenal Transfer News: Duvan Zapata deal closer as Gunners show interest in Udinese striker

English Premier League (EPL) club Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is desperate bring in a striker at the Emirates. Udinese striker Duvan Zapata is one of the major targets for the Frenchman and the Bianconeri Fruiliani president Franco Soldati has also confirmed that an offer has been submitted.

“He has also received many offers from abroad, including from Arsenal. However, first we want coach Beppe Iachini to know the team so they can make shared decisions.” Soldati said, as reported by Daily Express.

Zapata may not offer the superstar name the Arsenal supporters have been crying for, but Wenger believes that the Colombian will play a key role in his team’s chances of challenging for the Premier League next season.

It has to be noted that Zapata is on a two-year loan deal at Udinese from Napoli and the Gli Azzurri have the option of recalling the striker back within his loan spell. The 6-ft-1 striker has had a decent run of form for the Italian club and has shown potential of improving in the upcoming seasons.

Zapata has featured 25 times for Udinese in the 2015-16 campaign and has scored 8 goals for the club. He has a shot accuracy of 34% and has created a total of 12 chances for his team. Jumping to the Premier League from the Serie A could be a tough task for the striker and history has shown big name players to falter after making a move to English football’s top division.

What Arsenal needs now is a top striker who could replace Olivier Giroud upfront and there is a lingering doubt about Zapata within the Arsenal fanbase. Many are not convinced whether the striker can live up to his billing at The Emirates.
