A week back, all the sources were linking an eventual transfer of Leicester City’s Jamie Vardy to Arsenal. However, tides have changed and it looks like the English striker has made a U-turn in his stance of joining the Gunners next season. Ray Parlour, former Arsenal midfielder has claimed the news.
“It looks like it isn’t happening now. I was at the Arsenal the other day and there were big reports flying around. But, it seems Vardy thought about it while on England duty, and suddenly there was a U-turn.” Parlour said, as reported by Mirror, via talkSPORT.
Arsenal coach, Arsene Wenger met the release clause of $28.5 million for the Leicester City goal-machine. Vardy seemed all set to join the Emirates Stadium after getting impressed by the three-year contract worth $171,000-a-week placed on the table. But, Vardy’s flying-off to Euro 2016 stalled the move and the transfer hung in balance.
It has to be noted that the 29-year-old Vardy promised Arsenal an answer before heading to France. However, the promise was not met leaving the Gunners anticipating the worst.
Jamie Vardy was phenomenal for Leicester City last season, scoring 24 goals in the league and Cludio Ranieri’s Foxes went on to clinch the Premier League title. The achievement is a sort of miracle considering they were made 5000-1 odds of winning the league.
Vardy did not start or make an appearance off the bench for England in their opening Group game against Russia in Marseille. However, considering England’s poor finishing costing them 2 points in the match, the Englisman is tipped to start in the next game against Wales.
