English Premier League (EPL) club Arsenal are in pole position to capture Inter Milan central defender Jeison Murillo ahead of Leicester City, Stoke City and FC Zenit Saint Petersburg. The Colombian is priced at $29 million and the Gunners are willing to pay the entire amount.
Arsenal coach Arsene Wenger has made an initial offer of around $21 million to prise the defender away from Inter, but it looks like they have to up their bid if they want to win the race ahead of their rivals. Inter are willing to get into negotiation and if everything falls in place, then the 24-year-old could be seen scorching the grass of the Emirates Stadium next season, as reported by teamtalk.com – via Gazetta dello Sport.
It has to be noted that Murillo was a transfer target for Manchester United this January, but the move failed to materialize as the recently sacked United manager Louis Van Gaal was not interested in signing the Colombian. Wenger on the other hand has identified Murillo as the replacement for Per Mertesacker, who is tipped to leave the club this summer.
The job of signing Murillo won’t be easy for Arsenal since he is also being targeted by recent Premier League champions Leicester, another Premier League club Stoke and the Russian club Zenit. However, if reports are to be believed, Murillo himself wants to play under Arsene Wenger next season.
Murillo can be considered as a ball-playing central defender who has a pass accuracy of 87%. The former Granada man has appeared 34 times for Inter last season and has won 55% of his duels. However, the Colombian could be rough on the tackling department which might give Wenger some worry, according to Squawka.com.
Murillo has also played for Colombia at the international stage and has made 17 appearances for his country. He also has 1 international goal under his repertoire.
