Bayern Munich manager Carlo Ancelotti has been linked with a sensational move to take over Barcelona. This is after Luis Enrique departs in the summer. The 57-year-old Italian has been tipped to be axed by Bayern after a poor first season with the Bavarians.
Bayern Munich are currently favorites to win the Bundesliga and find themselves 8 points ahead of second placed RB Leipzig. However, they have been knocked out of both the UEFA Champions League and DFB Pokal in the space of two weeks to Real Madrid and Borussia Dortmund respectively. Hence, this has led to speculation regarding his future at the Allianz Arena post this season, according to reports in Germany.
Ancelotti to Barcelona will not go down well with Real Madrid fans
The news of Ancelotti taking over at Barcelona will not go down well with the Real Madrid supporters. The Italian gaffer has a history with the Los Blancos in the past. Hence, a move to Camp Nou would surely ruffle a few feathers.
Carlo Ancelotti was at the helm of Real Madrid between 2013 and 2015 and during this period guided Los Blancos to 4 trophies. This includes the La Decima triumph over Atletico Madrid in the final of the 2014 edition of UEFA Champions League.
Meanwhile, Barcelona manager Luis Enrique has already decided of not renewing his contract with the Catalan giants. He is set to leave the club after the end of the current season.
Enrique’s final season with Barcelona has been a massive disappointment. The Blaugrana have already been knocked out of the UEFA Champions League and are on the verge of missing out on the league title to arch rivals Real Madrid.
Hence, the only trophy Barcelona can win this season is the Copa del Rey. The Catalans will take on Alaves in the final of the domestic tournament on May 27, 2017.
Both Bayern Munich and Barcelona will try and focus on the end of the season. The two teams have the opportunity to end the season on a high. The Bavarians have almost won the league and the Catalans are in touching distance.
The Camp Nou outfit have already confirmed that they will only announce the appointment of a new manager at the end of the current season. Hence, we will have to wait until then to find out if Ancelotti does actually move to Spain, once again.
Rummenigge has no doubts over Ancelotti future at Bayern
Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, Bayern Munich CEO has recently spoken on the future of Ancelotti at the Allianz Arena. The 61-year-old has stressed that the former AC Milan manager’s future is not up for debate after two tournament exits in eight days.
“Carlo is a very good and experienced coach. The length of his contract is well known, and isn’t up for debate,” Rummenigge said, as reported by ESPN.
“Things have happened that we cannot influence. Injuries, refereeing decisions and sometimes the necessary luck was also missing.”
Bayern currently lead the Bundesliga by eight points with four games remaining.
