La Liga giant Barcelona have reportedly agreed a transfer for Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) midfielder Angel di Maria. The transfer fee is reported to be in the region of €60 million ($65m).
The former Manchester United player has not been in the best of form for the French outfit. However, the Catalan giants have identified Di Maria as a perfect replacement for Andres Iniesta, as reported by Spanish outlet Don Balon.
Lionel Messi, international teammate of Di Maria is also reportedly interested in the deal. The Argentina international captain reportedly communicating with the PSG man to bring him to Camp Nou.
Di Maria built for the Barcelona team
The 29-year-old Di Maria has three to four solid years of football left ahead of him. Hence, a move for the Argentine will make sense for the Catalan giants. Although Di Maria played for Barca’s rivals Real for four years, a knock on the door by Blaugrana will certainly make the player think of shifting his base to Camp Nou.
The Argentine international has been a mainstay for PSG for two seasons now, after an unsuccessful spell at Old Trafford. In the 42 appearances this season for the Paris outfit, he scored 15 goals (two of which came against Barcelona) and has a further 8 assists.
Angel di Maria’s playing style and his last season at Real Madrid proved that he is more than capable of playing in midfield. The inside left position at Barcelona is very much up for grabs with Iniesta visibly on the wane. The Spaniard will probably be eased out of the first team like Xavi in his last season with the club.
The former Real Madrid man has the experience to play in the La Liga and has European pedigree. He was Man of the Match in Champions League 2014 final. Hence, he could help to lead Barcelona’s rebuilding process. He could also link up well with the likes of Jordi Alba and Neymar on the left.
Despite Don Balon claiming the deal to be agreed, there has been no official confirmation on the transfer. Di Maria needs to agree on the deal, which will be interesting given his Madrid connections. However, his relationship with Lionel Messi could help the process.
Di Maria wants rest to find best form at PSG
Paris Saint-Germain winger Angel Di Maria has said that he did not start this season as well as he had hoped. But, he is pleased with his improvement in form since the start of 2017.
The Argentine was slow off the mark and had just one Ligue 1 goal and five assists to his name at the midway point of the campaign. This prompted the French champions to move for Wolfsburg’s Julian Draxler in the January transfer window.
“I did not start well. I was not at the level I had hoped to be at and I think the fact I played the Copa America and a lot of matches had an influence. Hence, I suffered a dip,” Di Maria said, as reported by ESPN.
“In 2017, I was able to spend time with my family in Argentina, recharge my batteries, think about what had been achieved. I needed to change something, to be better. I managed to score goals, make more assists, that is the important thing.”
