Chelsea defender Branislav Ivanovic and goalkeeper Asmir Begovic could potentially move out of the club before the winter transfer window closes on Tuesday. The 32-year-old Ivanovic has been linked to West Bromwich Albion, while the 29-year-old Begovic is being courted by Bournemouth.
Antonio Conte, Chelsea manager revealed that the club must respect every decision for the players. The Blues defeated Brentford on Saturday in the FA Cup and the Italian manager revealed his opinion on the transfer situation.
“It is difficult to make a decision but we must respect every decision for the players. We must wait over these next three days and we will see.” Conte said, as reported by BBC.
Tony Pulis, West Brom manager was present at Stamford Bridge to see Ivanovic score in Chelsea’s 4-0 victory over the Championship side. The goal was the Serbian’s 34th for the club in 377 games, as reported by ESPN.
Ivanovic has won two Premier League titles, three FA Cups and one Champions League trophy during his nine year stint with The Blues. The 32-year-old man from Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia joined Chelsea from Lokomotiv Moscow in 2008.
Since Conte took over as the Chelsea manager this summer, Ivanovic has just made 16 appearances for the club. All of those has been as a substitute.
“Ivan knows well the situation and I’m pleased if he remains here, if he stays with us. But in this situation, for sure, the player must make the best decision for him, for his family.” Conte stated on Ivanovic’s transfer speculation.
Meanwhile, Chelsea’s backup goalkeeper Begovic also featured in The Blues’ FA Cup win over the Bees on Saturday. The Bosnia international made a couple of good saves in the match and kept a clean sheet.
However, the 29-year-old man from Trebinje, Bosnia and Herzegovina has only made five appearances for Chelsea this season. All of those appearances have been in Cup games.
Conte stressed that he will allow Begovic to leave only if the club is able to sign a suitable replacement. Several rumors are linking The Blues with Celtic’s custodian Craig Gordon.
“It’s not easy. There are three days to finish this transfer window. We have some situations. We are seeing, but we are not close [to replacing Begovic].” Conte said.
