Real Madrid’s chase of Leicester City midfielder N’Golo Kante has received a major blow as Chelsea looks to be in pole position to acquire the Frenchman after submitting an official bid. The English Premier League giant did not waste any time to show their intent on capturing one of the most influential players of the English Premier League (EPL) last season and Madrid will have to act with haste if they don’t want to stay in the race.

Real Madrid manager Zinedine Zidane is a huge admirer of Kante and wants to add him to the Real squad to bring a defensive solidity in the midfield area. Currently, Real Madrid only has Casemiro in that position and Kante would provide brilliant depth. Toni Kroos and Luca Modric are the other two midfielders in the club, but are not so good defensively, as reported by AS.

An official bid of $36 million plus $4 million in add-ons have been submitted by Chelsea. The Blues are confident that they will be able to prize Kante away from Leicester City this summer with the bid, according to Guardian.

The transfer amount is a lot more than the release clause of the Frenchman, but after a recent bid of $44 million from a Chinese club, Leicester will demand more money if they want their star midfielder to leave the club.

Despite a big money offer from China, Kante prefers to focus more on his football and has no interest to move to Asia at the moment. The Frenchman has his heart set on joining Chelsea and has also rejected a recent contract renewal offer from Leicester.

Kante was brilliant for the Foxes in the Premier League last season and was a major key in the club winning the title. The 25-year-old made a total of 37 appearances for Leicester in the league in which he had a pass accuracy of 82%. Kante had an average of 6 defensive actions per game and won 46% of the duels with another player, as reported by Squawka.
