Chelsea and Brazilian footballers have a strong relationship. The Blues want to make it even stronger by capturing striker Gabriel Barbosa from Santos. The hierarchy at Stamford Bridge is becoming extremely confident of striking a deal with the 19-year-old.
Gabriel Barbosa, who is also known as “Gabrigol” is edging closer to a $33.42 million deal to move to the English Premier League (EPL). Serie A club Juventus are also interested to capture the player, but the Brazilian striker has his eyes set on joining the Premier League giants, according to Daily Mirror.
Excitement and anticipation is always something which are associated with a Brazilian striker. The same can be said for Gabriel Barbosa, whose skills and talent has already been compared to the likes of Barcelona forward Neymar. It has to be noted that Neymar also played for Santos. However, Barbosa is a striker, unlike his Brazilian counterpart and has a different style of play.
Chelsea has a history of signing Brazilian players in recent years. Oscar and Willian regularly feature in the first-team squad for the Blues while the likes of Nathan have been on loan at Vitesse Arnhem.
Antonio Conte, the new manager at Stamford Bridge already has the likes of Diego Costa and Michy Batshuayi as his striking options. However, what he lacks is the quality backup in that department. Barbosa would be an ideal player for the role, especially with Loic Remy being so injury prone.
The man from Sao Paulo, Brazil made a total of 30 appearances for Santos in the Brazilian Serie A in which he scored a total of 10 goals. He created a total of 29 chances for his team and has a shot accuracy of 56%, as reported by Squawka.
For those who are unaware of the talent that Barbosa possesses, here is a video of him.
