France international and West Ham United attacking midfielder Dmitri Payet has been linked with a move away from the club this summer. The 29-year-old had a superb debut season for The Hammers after joining from Marseille last season.
The man from Saint-Pierre, Réunion, France has stated that he will not leave West Ham United this season for any other club. He has reassured the club hierarchy and the fans that he is “100% staying” and not leaving London.
“I’ve heard about all the interest and I’m flattered but I love West Ham. We had a fantastic season and I can’t wait to play in the Olympic stadium. I’m 100% staying at West Ham, I love the club. I can tell the Hammers fans that.” Payet said, as reported by Guardian.
The Frenchman was sensational in the English Premier League (EPL) after he was purchased for just $14 million. He made a total of 30 appearances for The Hammers last season in which he scored 9 goals for the club. He had a shot accuracy of 55% and created an impressive total of 116 chances, according to Squawka.
Payet also had a brilliant Euro 2016 for France where he found the net 3 times. He helped his national team reach the finals of the competition where they lost 1-0 to Portugal. The loss raised rumors of him leaving West Ham United for a bigger, more elite European club.
West Ham will play their first match in the Olympic Stadium against Shakhtyor Soligorsk of Belarus or Domzale of Slovenia in the third qualifying round of the Europa League. The Hammers asked UEFA to play the second leg at home to make sure that the stadium is ready for action.
