English Premier League (EPL) giants, Manchester United are slowly inching closer to signing a deal with AS Monaco right-back Fabinho. United manager, Jose Mourinho has had previous experience of working with the player at Real Madrid and sees him as a leading first-team player at Old Trafford.

Reports in Brazil are strongly linking the player with a move to Manchester United after an impressive campaign in the French Ligue 1. With Matteo Darmian failing to impress as a first choice right-back and Antonio Valencia not a natural in the role, Mourinho wants a proper selection for the position heading into the next season, according to Manchester Evening News.

The 22-year-old made 34 appearances for Monaco in Ligue 1 last season. He won a total of 89 tackles with a success rate of 47%. Fabinho made 76 interceptions for his team, 98 clearances and eight blocks, according to Squawka.

The man from Campinas, Brazil is an all-round right-back equally adept at both defending and attacking. He is excellent while going forward past multiple defenders and is blessed with excellent crossing abilities. The defender really catches the eye of the spectators while he is making his run down the flanks.

Although right-back is not a necessary option for Mouriho to invest this summer, he would like to bring in the talent of Fabinho to Old Trafford while he still can. United’s current option Darmian has been linked with a move away from the club to Napoli and Fabinho will be a suitable replacement.

It won’t be a cheap transfer however, with the French club looking for a minimum transfer fee of $33.52 million or more for the player. But, with age on his side and loads of potential, the money will be well spent.
