Granit Xhaka will scorch the green grass of the Emirates Stadium next season as Arsenal has signed the 23-year-old from Borussia Monchengladbach. The midfielder cost the Gunners $43.79 million and will be the club’s third most expensive transfer after the likes of Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez.

The club is set to announce the signing officially within the next 48 hours; however, pictures of the midfielder in the Gunners kit got leaked on social media. It is learnt that Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger wrapped up the transfer quickly so that Xhaka could join the Switzerland’s national team ahead of Euro 2016. The Frenchman hopes that the signing will lift the moods up within the Emirates, as reported by Mirror.

Xhaka flew to London last Friday to complete the deal with Arsenal and also finish his medical. According to reports, Wenger has trust in the newly acquired midfielder and believes that the player will be able to provide leadership and technical ability to the midfield.

Xhaka was named the Swiss Premier League’s young player of the year during his time at Basel before he moved to Gladback for a fee of $9.19 million in 2012. The 6-ft-1 midfielder led the U-17 Switzerland national team to a World Cup victory in Nigeria in 2009. The talented midfielder got his international cap right after his 18th birthday.

Meanwhile, Arsene Wenger is also looking to bring in a world class striker and a top center half to the club this summer. Henrikh Mkhitaryan of Borussia Dortmund is under Wenger’s radar, whose contract with the German club ends within 12 months. The 27-year-old has also threatened a release clause if club coach Thomas Tuchel leaves or is fired, according to Kicker.

Dortmund is unwilling to meet the demands of the Armenian striker and Wenger is looking to capitalize on the situation.
