James Rodriguez will be a Manchester United player in the coming days if everything falls into place. Real Madrid have given the green-light to the club from Manchester to proceed with the signing of the Colombian. However, the transfer won’t be cheap and the Old Trafford hierarchy has to shell-out around $68 million to capture the attacking midfielder/winger.
Manchester United have the upper-hand in the capture of the player since the newly hired Old Trafford manager Jose Mourinho and James Rodriguez share the same agent in the form of Jorge Mendes. Hence, the proceedings of the deal could be accelerated due to that connection and also because of Colombia’s exit from Copa America 2016. Colombia was defeated 2-0 by Chile in the semi-final, as reported by Daily Mirror.
However, there might still be holdup in the transfer deal. Rodriguez will be undergoing a shoulder surgery recently and it could prove to be a hindrance. But, Mourinho is adamant to make a statement signing this summer and the 24-year-old will prove to be a perfect statement, as reported by Yahoo.
There are some negatives to signing James Rodriguez which Mourinho and Manchester United must consider. The man from Cúcuta, Colombia can be inconsistent with his performances. However, he is an extremely talented player and if Mourinho can use him the way he did with Eden Hazard at Chelsea, then the Red Devils could be a dangerous attacking side next season, especially with Rodriguez’s partnership with Anthony Martial upfront.
James Rodriguez’s vision paired with Anthony Martial’s blistering pace could gift the Old Trafford supporters the quick counter-attacking football they were craving for the last three seasons.
